track and adjunct faculty had two votes, are there two unions?
Most tenure-track and adjunct faculty across campus have expressed a desire to have one union, as it will benefit all of us to pool our resources, jointly advocate for mutual interests, and avoid attempts to pit us against each other. At the same time, there are concerns that tenure-track faculty and adjunct faculty will not always have identical interests and there will be some issues unique to each group (such as job security for adjuncts and tenure and promotion issues for tenure-track faculty). We will be working to balance and incorporate both of these realities in drafting a constitution that members will have the opportunity to vote on in the fall. At this point, the consensus seems to be that there should be one union, but with each group having their own representatives participating in union governance, as well as bargaining teams who will coordinate but bargain two separate contracts.
