One of the goals of the Air Quality Health Index is to provide Canadians with health risk information that would be consistent across the country. The air quality Index was developed based on the best available dataset of national air pollution measurements. However, air quality data are not readily available in all areas of Canada: for example, the technical capacity to monitor air pollution is limited in rural areas.
