At many college campuses, including Drew, there is a Health Professions Committee composed of several faculty members including the pre-med advisor. The role of the committee is two-fold. The first is to help each student strengthen his/her application. Students are given mock interview practice similar to what happens later at medical schools. Feedback about the student’s interview skills, comments about the personal statement, and suggestions for overall improvement, are provided by the committee. The second job of the committee is to arrive at an overall assessment of the readiness of each student for applying to medical school. This assessment, along with letters of recommendation from faculty, supervisors and doctors, is used by the pre-med advisor to write a committee report (letter of evaluation) for each applicant. Sometimes the committee’s assessment will cause the pre-med advisor to suggest the student delay applying to medical school until one or more components of their app
