The Heartland Expressway has a goal of being completed by 2015. However, the ability to meet this goal will be challenged by many elements outside the control of the Heartland Expressway such as the rising costs of construction, the availability of state and federal funds, or acts of terrorism, to name just a few. It should also be noted that although the Heartland Expressway is a Federally-designated “High-Priority Corridor,” such a designation does not entitle or guarantee the Heartland Expressway any federal funding.
