I’m sorry, but I really must disagree with some of the things Danielle recommended. But first, if you do salt this is very important and will play an important part of your success or failure. Take a sample of your tap water and take it to a fish store that sells coral. Have them test the tap water for TDS. Total disolved solids. If it is over 150ppm you will need to use an RODI filter if you want to be successful. You can try googling your local water municipality water report it may be listed there. Different parts of the country have very differing water supplies. Arizona tap water is about 800 ppm TDS . No chance of a saltwater tank with that. Here in Philly we are at about 180ppm Okay for salt water only but terrible for Coral. So before you do anything check your tap water. If it is to bad for salt plan on buying rodi water from your fish store a machine at a super market or walmart. Here is a link to an inexpensive rodi unit for home use.
