There is no official date. Some stores start decorating right after Halloween (FEH!) The Rock Center tree is put up right before Thanksgiving, altho decorating it usually takes a few days, so it is best seen after Thanksgiving. It is after Thanksgiving that the major decorations go up along Fifth Avenue and in the windows of the major department stores.
