Tithing is Biblical – so where does the money go?
Well, the thing that impresses me about most churches I’ve attended is that they have a full disclosure of finances to their members or those who are part of the church regularly. And, I’m sure that if someone who does not attend, was sincere in their asking of a church finances, that an outsider could see the statements. In every church I’ve been to, the accounting is audited, and the treasurer is not allowed to be connected with the pastor – typically the treasurer is elected by the church membership to keep it ethical. At the year end, we’re given a taxable donation receipt. A church accounts for every penny that comes in. What is the money used for, besides a minister’s salary? Ever priced the cost of heating or air conditioning a sanctuary? PA and projection systems are expensive. And, most churches donate out to other ministries. Many include overseas ministries. It’s what we call tithing out. One church I was in, committed to raising $40,000 over 2 years to help a sister church
