Time Machine won back up onto my new external hard drive. What gives?

Time Machine requires that the backup disk be partitioned using GPT or APM scheme. The MBR scheme (use by PCs) is not supported, even with an HFS+ formatted volume. Use Disk Utility to re-partition the disk and replacce the MBR partition map with a GPT or APM scheme.
