How have you overcome such an experience? A: First when I said 37 years in the Netherlands, I left Sudan for studies in Yugoslavia on May 11, 1968. After receiving education, I headed for the Netherlands. I went through very difficult days away from home here in the town of Rodham. I was lonely. There wasn’t any Sudanese around me. Finally I stumbled upon two Sudanese in Amsterdam, Mahmoud Khidir, who died, and Abdallah Mahjoub. Actually certain circumstances were behind my meeting and running into the two Sudanese fellows. Later, I moved from Rodham to Amsterdam. We went through difficult homesickness because Sudanese immigrants at that time tended to immigrate to other parts of Europe such as Britain. However, the situation changed as fellow Sudanese began to arrive here for studies or work. The number has increased over recent years.
