Though figures vary, some 50% of the young people who would attend the Academy would have some level of special educational need. How is it planned to meet their particular needs?
Assessments of need will continue to be made and KCC will continue to fund support for those children with statements. Funding that would be provided would match funding currently in place. A personalised programme would be put in place for all pupils at Key Stage 3 who are experiencing difficulties. This programme would include English, Maths and a recovery programme that would be run by special educational needs teachers. The aspiration for all pupils would be to make progress and move out of the programme; however, the programme will also be available at Key Stage 4 with Maths, English and Science, as well as guided choices, which could include the recovery programme.
