This is usually during a hard break (I have a knack for cornering hard). Whats wrong, what am I breaking, and apart from cornering slower, what do I need to fix?

A loud scraping sound while braking is usually the rotors being chewed up by the metal plate that the brake pad material is bonded to. Your brake pads are worn out. I’ve already seen people drive like that until the metal is gone and the caliper pistons are rubbing against the rotors! Next the pistons blow out of the calipers and NO BRAKES. Drive the hell out of the car if you are an aggressive driver, and have fun, just maintain the vehicle which will need service sooner than normal driving calls for.
