We’ve been greatly concerned at this excercise since it’s inception and our fears seemed to have been justified. We wrote to the DSA and the HSE before the test was implemented highlighting safety issues and were ignored. We are confident that we can teach our pupils to get through this excercise safely but urge all candidates to wear decent safety clothing as a matter of course. We have trialled a variety of different methods for this excercise and have settled on one effective technique which is straightforward and safe. We also build the candidate up to full speed in steps, minimising risk.
