After seriously studying the opportunities and examples of foreign posts, it was determined that the start-up costs and number of years needed to begin to show a profit are unrealistic at this time. It is more important that the Postal Service regain strong and sound financial footing. But the Postal Service still wants the flexibility to determine what products and services to sell or produce. Ten years ago, no one knew what a DVD was; today Netflix is one of the Postal Service’s largest customers.
