There seems to be a difference in how people get to the major games as therapists?
As stated before, there is a huge difference in how people get to the major games. There is a significant change going on in the major games at this moment. It started in 2006 winter games, noticeably more at 2008 Beijing and will continue with the increasing funding to NSF’s from the government and the exacting demands on sport sciences. Sports want dedicated, qualified professionals in the sport science fields working for them. They want them (fortunately like our PET) to work with the team through each olympic quadrennium. And they are willing to pay them. This difference is the NSF’s bringing their own experienced, paid therapists to the games. The NSF’s have argued and fought for this for years. And the transition has begun. Obviously the COC must still have voluteer therapist because there are many sports (we ARE in Canada) that don’t have the budget to have full time PET’s working for them. They need support so the COC provides them with therapists, physiologists, doctors etc. T
