There is also a Gordon Engineering Leadership (GEL) program for Juniors and Seniors. How is ELPOP different from GEL?
A1. The extent to which you participate in the tracks dictates your requirements. Overall, the tracks are structured to mesh with and complement your existing academic obligations. We want to give you opportunities, not more requirements. Admission to the GEL program is limited to successful applicants in a competitive process during the spring of a students sophomore year, and the program requires a much greater time commitment, including completing four short subjects, participating in a two hour Engineering Leadership Laboratory (ELL) every week for four semesters, and other project and service requirements. GEL arranges a summer placement at the end of the junior year, while ELPOP participants are free to pursue their own summer interests. To obtain “ELPOP” status (approximately the equivalent of an MIT concentration), you must complete successfully the following requirements: • Undergraduate Practice Opportunities Program (UPOP) • 3 of 4 ELP (Engineering Leadership Program) 6-unit
