Reading eBooks online allows your patrons to view the eBook without checking it out. It is similar to browsing through a printed book in your library. The eBook is in use by a patron, but is not checked out. The default read online timeout for the Online Reader is 15 minutes. If the eBook is left open but not touched within those 15 minutes, the eBook returns itself to the shelf for other patrons to access. Checking out an eBook online allows your patrons to keep the book for a period of time and read it on any computer that meets the system requirements. For Destiny Library Manager users, the checkout period is determined by the loan policies that apply to the Patron Type of the patron and Circulation Type of the eBook. For non-Destiny users, the checkout period is specified when you place your eBook order with Follett. If no time is selected, the default checkout period is 3 days.
