The water came out dark the first time it ran through the Jupiter Water Ionizer. What that normal?
That is what is called “fine” coming off the carbon in the filter and it is normal. It will clear up within the first few seconds of use. How often the filter should be changed depends on how much chlorine there is in your municipal water. If there is a lot of chlorine in the water, the filter should be changed once a year. If there is not as much the filter cartridge should be changed every 2 years. Contact your water authority to get this information. Anything over .5 ppm of chlorine is considered above average. If you have well water, the filter changed the carbon filter every 3-4 years. The carbon filter will also remove other unwanted elements found in drinking water such as VOCs (benzene, trihalomethanes, etc).
