The Vineland Survey Form covers so many areas. How can I obtain scorable responses without asking a series of unrelated questions?
As the administration manual suggests, becoming familiar with the domains, subdomains, and individual items on the Vineland Survey Form is an important precursor to conducting an interview. Because the items are in developmental rather than categorical order, becoming familiar with the content is necessary to develop an awareness of which items are most easily asked together. Asking related items together helps an interviewer maintain a conversational tone, rather than a “question-answer” format throughout the interview. Table 4.1 on page 69 of the Survey Form manual groups items by category as well as developmental sequence and is very helpful for identifying which items may be asked together. Copy this table and keep it handy during a few interviews. Another strategy to avoid asking unrelated questions is to “color-code” a record form prior to administration. For example, put a red dot on all telephone items, a green dot on all housecleaning items, a yellow dot on all safety items, e
