The UBs require equal lay representation on denominational boards and committees. Is there any movement in the Missionary Church toward something like this?
They haven’t set any quotas. However, they have a very high view of the laity, and some committees are supplied predominantly by laypersons because of the type of business that committee handles. It depends on the expertise needed. They definitely try hard to plug into the abilities of laypersons. They just don’t set quotas or percentages. The formula for General Board representation automatically creates lay representation: the district superintendent and a lay person are the first two representatives from each district. Most districts have requirements for minimum lay representation on the district board and on many district committees. However, not all committees nationally or in a district have such requirements.
