The Texas Regional Hostmaster FAQ : Other Common Questions : I need to change the IP addresses of my name servers. What should I do?
There are two situations here that have different procedures. • The name server has the same suffix as the domain. For example, a name server that serves the domain joesgarage.fort-worth.tx.us is called ns.joesgrage.fort-worth.tx.us. • The name server does NOT have the same suffix as the domain. For example, overnight.dallas.tx.us has name service provided by ns.example.com. The first case would require an application be submitted to the Texas Regional Hostmaster to update the IP address of the name server. The second case would require no action by the Texas Regional Hostmaster and no application should be submitted. If the IP addresses of your name servers change and these server names do NOT have the same suffix as the domain you are concerned about, you don’t need to do submit any registration paperwork to us. The old IP addresses will automatically purge themselves from the DNS over time as the various name servers on the Internet time out their cache entries for the old IP addres
