The Stylus 1000 has a Digital Image Stabilization function. What is it, and how does it work?
Digital Image Stabilization is designed to reduce the blurring effect that can occur when either the camera or the subject is in motion during image capture. Images taken in low light are particularly susceptible to blurring because the shutter is held open longer in order to expose the CCD to enough light to capture the picture. When shooting with Digital Image Stabilization set to ON, the light sensitivity of the CCD is boosted (up to ISO 6400) so that the shutter speed can stay fast enough to freeze motion. The adjustment is made automatically when the level of ambient light would be insufficient to maintain a shutter speed of 1/125 at ISO 64.
