The Stylus 1000 has a 5x Fine Zoom. What is it, and how does it work?
Fine Zoom is a smart digital zoom that is optimized for a standard 4 x 6 print. It combines optical zoom and image cropping technologies to allow you to effectively extend the maximum magnification of a digital cameras optical telephoto zoom.An example will serve to help illustrate how Fine Zoom works. In Fig. A below, the cameras lens has been extended to its maximum optical telephoto zoom (10x). At this point, the CCD will be exposed to light that passes through the lens at a specific angle. (This light is represented by the color yellow.) By extending the angle of the light out toward the subject, we can see the field of view that will be captured when the shutter button is pressed. This field of view is represented by the blue rectangle around the subject.
