The stars look so real. Does the dome of the planetarium really open to show everyone the night sky?

You’d be surprised how many times that question arises. No, the dome of the planetarium does not open – it is both ceiling and roof of our cosmic theater. Inside the planetarium the audience views a simulation of the night sky projected unto the curved ceiling overhead. Day or night, rain or sunshine, the planetarium is always ready to show you the wonders of the universe. The only dome that does open is a portion of the Observatory roof that slides back to allow the telescope to view the actual sky.
