The SP-510 UZ offers a Silent Mode. What is it, and how does it work?

In Silent Mode, the camera emits no audible cues. It will not click when capturing an image or beep when making menu selections. It will not issue a warning sound prior to formatting a memory card. When Silent Mode is ON and the alarm clock function is also enabled, the camera will not ring the alarm when the appointed time arrives. Instead, the camera will issue a visual cue: The LCD monitor will turn on and display the time, date and Silent Mode icon for about one minute. To activate Silent Mode, first turn the mode dial to any mode other than GUIDE and then press the MENU button. Use the arrow pad to navigate to and select SILENT MODE. Press the OK/FUNC button to access the Silent mode menu. Use the Up or Down arrow to choose ON, and then press OK/FUNC again to activate Silent Mode. To disable Silent Mode, repeat the above procedure but at the Silent Mode menu choose OFF instead of ON.
