The salaries in Surat seem quite lower than Bangkok. What’s the reason behind this?
This is a very fair question and we hear it quite often. We are happy to answer it. Our salary is not a set figure. The more you teach, the more you earn. Currently, the starting salary at other Surat Thani schools is around 22,000 baht per month. Teachers at those schools work an average of 22-24 hours per week. At Super English, a teacher who works 22 hours per week will get a monthly paycheck of more than 22,000 baht. In comparison to other schools in Surat, our teachers make substantially more money. Further, we offer a higher bonus upon completion of the contract (25,000 baht instead of 15,000 or 10,000 baht), considerably less paperwork, no required office hours, and several months more of vacation time. Many applicants make it clear that if the money were better, comparable to Bangkok salaries for example, the decision to come to Surat Thani would be much easier. It is important to understand that the cost of living in Surat is extremely low, much lower than Bangkok. An average
