Producer responsibility means making the ‘producer of a product’ responsible for the management of that product once it becomes waste. In Ireland at the moment the company of individual disposing of waste is responsible for the proper management of that waste. For example, the general public pay charges through their local authority for the provision of a waste collection and management service, while companies make special arrangements with private operators and local authorities for the management of their waste.
