The R30 fins look cool, do they serve another purpose?
The primary purpose for the fins is for cooling. LEDs are semiconductor based, which means that they must be kept “cool” in order to have a long life, just like the CPU in your computer. The fins provide a large surface area, from which excess heat is “converted” or absorbed by the air. The technical term for this process is called natural convection.
