The preliminary results of the salary survey showed that I was paid a little bit under market and I’m currently at the top step of my salary range. Where will I be placed in the new pay structure?
You will receive a letter from the Human Resources Department that will explain your specific situation and where your salary will be placed. The current pay scale moves so that the new top step is equal to pay at the 70th percentile of the market for that classification. Employees will move to the same relative position in the market pay scale, up to a maximum 15 percent increase, except where more is needed to place an employee within the market pay range (at the new Step 1). In 2009, annual progressions through the step process will occur as scheduled using existing guidelines. For graphic illustrations showing some examples of how employees will transition to the new pay structure, see the PowerPoint presentation provided to the City Council at a prior study session. http://cms.cityoftacoma.org/web/StudySession10-21-08PayStructureCompPhilosophy.
