The number of font survey submissions is low isn it?
The point of the font survey is to find the most common fonts, those that are most likely to be present on the end user’s computer. The ultimate aim is to build robust font stacks that have a higher likelihood of rendering our preferred fonts, or a decent fallback. If you have surveyed 354 Mac systems and found 95.48% have Helvetica Neue installed, you don’t need another 1000 submissions to know that’s a pretty safe bet. At the time of writing the frequency of American Typewriter is 88.42%, which means that 313 survey submissions out of 354 had the font installed. Another 1000 submissions might alter the frequency by a percentage point or two, its not likely to alter the broad ranking of the font compared with others. A larger number of submissions would improve the precision of the results, but it wouldn’t significantly alter the ranking of the most popular fonts we’re interested in.
