The Night Attila Died by Michael Babcock–readers?
…Certainly a lot of folks were delighted that he had died. The apparent fact that he normally did not drink heavily but supposedly died due to over-indulgence, coupled with the failure of his new bride to say anything all night long despite the blood are certainly red flags. My question is, though, that if it was Marcian that engineered the “murder” and so saved the empire, why would he have kept his role a secret? Wouldn’t telling his people that G_d used him as the instrument of death have given him more power because only really good people are given tasks directly by G_d. What if it was the thought that he had a lovely night ahead with a young bride that allowed Attila to relax his usually strict rules? What if he simply had an aneurism? What if he had gotten bonked on the head in battle one time too many? What if the bride was too tired to notice the blood? What if she was scared to say anything because it might be blamed on her?
