The MS Word User Interface replaces all single quotes by hyphens (-) when saving a document. What is happening?
Recent versions of MS Word have a built in “feature” that “corrects” text as you type. This might prevent you from typing certain characters. To disable this behavior in MS Word, select the “AutoCorrect” option of the “Tools” menu, and deselect the option “Replace ‘Straight quotes’ with ‘Smart quotes'” on the page “Autoformat as you type”.
