The sensitivity may decrease slightly if not washed thoroughly. The manufacturer recommends washing with soap and water and/or wiping down with rubbing alcohol. The useful duration of the moisture sensor varies according to individual use and may become less responsive over time. Sensors typically retain their original sensitivity for about 6 weeks.
