The MOE approval came with conditions – what do they mean?
The conditions are constructive and consistent with our commitment to get millions of people out of their cars and on to transit, and to mitigate any adverse impacts. The conditions address concerns about the effect of diesel emissions on air quality and health. Three key conditions are: • GO Transit trains on the Georgetown rail corridor, and the Union-Pearson service, must use Tier 4 state-of-the-art engines when the service expansion begins or as soon as the technology is commercially available; • A health and impact mitigation plan must be put in place to address any remaining risks to health after Tier 4 locomotives are in operation on the line; • An ambient air monitoring and reporting plan must be put in place with monitoring locations situated along the Georgetown South Corridor or within the adjacent community.
