The MC Constitution states that divorced persons can serve as ministers. Are they strict about that?
As already stated, all current UB licensed ministers are eligible to automatically have their credentials transferred to the comparable category in the Missionary Church, and to continue serving as ministers in the Missionary Church. The policy of the Missionary Church is to not license anyone who has been divorced or is married to a person who has been divorced. Such persons can appeal to the district executive committee which, with a 75% vote, can pass a recommendation on to the General Board. The General Board will then appoint a special commission to investigate the case and give approval or disapproval. They do allow for extenuating circumstances, such as events occurring before salvation, unfaithfulness by a spouse, and other things. They have a number of ministers who have experienced divorce.
