The council does not maintain manhole covers that are owned by private companies such as Thames Water. The council will remove any danger in about an hour but the owner will replace or re-set manhole covers within a timescale set down by the company. The council advises owners of damaged manhole covers that are noticed during the routine inspection of the highway. Residents may contact Thames Water to report defective manhole covers.
