Actually, some species of antelope do live in the desert – gemsbok, for example. I assume you’re looking for a more sophisticated answer than ‘it will run away’. Probably something like ‘the lion doesn’t hunt, the lioness does’. This is not strictly true, though – lionesses do the majority of hunting for the pride, but males will join in on occasion, particularly when hunting large prey such as buffalo, and young males who have left their natal pride but not yet taken over one of their own have no choice but to hunt for themselves.
