The level and clarity of the pure tones in my GSI 17 headphones does not sound as it did when it was brand new, what can I do to fix it?

Remove the earphone plugs from the GSI 17 and any sound room patch panel connector and clean the plugs with a contact cleaner or plug into earphone jack several times to “clean” any oxidation from it’s connector surface.
