It can be spliced back together. The important part is to solder and to keep the center of wires minimum 5mm from each other. This can be done by using some high quality automotive silicone. Pull a heat shrink tube over as outer layer to keep it mechanically together. It might be tempting, but do not extend wire beyond the original length.
