The government has proven over and over that it can not run anything efficiently. Why do you think a public option would be any different?
I would argue that the federal government has already been running a health care plan efficiently for over 45 years. Its called Medicare. Medicare has been hugely successful in providing seniors with health coverage and bringing them out of poverty. And it has the lowest administrative costs of all health care plans 2-3 percent as opposed to an average of 12 percent for private health insurance plans.
