The ‘Go Getters’ Foam Hands are so sick! How did they come to be?
The concept was to take a piece of Americana and create a recession remix version of the object. The “Go Getters” Foam Hand is what I came up with. I would hear and read daily on how people where struggling out there. People were robbing and stealing just to get some extra dough. Minimum wage isn’t enough when you have kids and there is a recession. So the energy behind the piece is a desperate times call for desperate measures thought. I would picture a family going out to a sports event and the dad wondering “This shit is gonna hurt my pocket.” The dad is wishing his #1 foam hand had a gun in it so that he can make some extra cheese sticking people up to recoup the money he is spending on his family since he was laid off the week before. The wife and kids are clueless to the fact that he lost his job. This imaginative story is what inspired me to start sketching out ideas.
