The FE-280 features Face Detection. What is it, and how does it work?
Olympus’ Face Detection is designed to help you achieve sharp, brilliant portrait pictures by using your subject’s face to set focus and calculate optimum exposure. Place the camera into FACE DETECT AF mode, and it will search for up to three faces within the vieiwing area and focus on them. The camera will determine the best exposure by metering a subject face. Among other benefits, this prevents a subject’s face from being too dark when the subject is backlit. If more than one face is present in the frame, the one with a dominant share of the viewing area will be used to set focus and exposure. Face Detection is also incorporated into the Smile Shot scene in Scene mode. Here, it works as a kind of hybrid of the self-timer and the high-speed sequential shooting functions. Through the use of Face Detection, Smile Shot is able to discern changes in facial expression. It will automatically shoot a high-speed burst of three images when the subject smiles.
