With property values low, it’s a bad time to sell such a huge parcel. In addition, selling the parcel would most likely result in more residential development on the site. This growth, along with growing numbers of house lots in other parts of Falmouth, would put additional pressure on services at the Falmouth Memorial Library and Community Programs without addressing current needs. Because of its great schools, accessibility to Portland, proximity to major transportation corridors as well as the coast, Falmouth will continue to grow. Keeping the Lunt/Plummer-Motz site in civic use not only addresses current needs, it provides flexibility for our future. Securing this land and these buildings is a wise choice for now and for many generations to come.
