The Echo system movie shows a water column in the system. Doesn’t that increase DMSO hydration?
Sound waves travel more efficiently in water than in air. The water column couples the transducer to the sample. The short time for which a source plate is inside the instrument, the negative pressure on the water supply return line and the airflow patterns in the system all minimize hydration. The Echo 550 can easily monitor DMSO hydration over long periods, and we have determined that the hydration contribution from the water column is extremely low. Back to main list.
