The difference between “Scruples” and “Indulgences”?

0

In the early 1500’s the Catholic Church used to sell “Indulgences”. They were kind of get out of sin free cards. An individual would buy an indulgence to prepay for penance and could therefore avoid the confessional. For those of you who are history buffs, this practice was what Martin Luther wrote his 95 Theses about, which he nailed to the door of the Castle Church. The difference between “scruples” and “indulgences” is that scruples are supposed to stop you from sinning in the first place.
