The Departments printer policy seems to have changed radically (and frequently) in the last couple of years. How can I determine the current policy?
• A: Sorry about that: the Department overreacted to perceived printing costs, and has since been trying to adjust to a reasonable policy to enable people to print within reasonable bounds. The current printer policy attempts to provide printing services while constraining the costs. Roughly speaking, the Department fully supports the CSO printer located on the 7th floor — the staff keep the software up-to-date, keep toner in the printer, and fill it with paper. We also decided to try to accommodate people who have their printers in shared areas by providing toner and paper for such printers. Since we are unable to buy toner for any kind of printer that happens to end up in an identified shared area, the Department manages the types of toner cartridges that it will purchase. Generally, we would like to stock toner that is used in multiple printers, and that is equitably priced (e.g., recently Dell has been giving away inexpensive printers that only take over-priced Dell toner cartridg
