The costs of accreditation and of required Performance Testing (PT) are significant for small laboratories. Is there any relief in sight?
NELAP recognizes this issue as one reason that few small labs have voluntarily chosen to become accredited. While there is a Small Lab Committee trying to resolve these issues for NELAP, changes will take some time. Q: The OELA website is problematic and often can’t be accessed. A: These problems are being addressed and should be resolved soon. The original web site was set up very quickly and there were problems with the domain host that was originally used. OELA is in the process of re-registering the site, and it should be up and running soon. Q: Model documents (and lots of them) are needed for all labs. A: The ORELAP Technical Advisory Committee (OTAC) is collaborating with ORELAP staff to gather material that will be used to produce model documents that labs can use.
