The playing of commercially produced videos or DVDs is permitted for educational purposes, provided the audience consists only of University staff and/or students. Playing such recordings to an audience which includes members of the public, for example students’ relatives, constitutes an infringement. Copying from commercially produced videos or DVDs, including the capture of a single frame, requires permission from the copyright holder. The only exception to this applies to copying in the course of instruction in the making of films or soundtracks.
