The Control Dial performs in the factory default settings as follows: P (Program) Rotating the control dial changes the shutter speeds and f-stop combinations while maintaining correct exposure. This is called Program Shift. In the home setting, a P is displayed in the upper left of the Control Panel screen. As the Control Dial is rotated, the P changes to Ps, indicating Program Shift. Program shift is like being in the AUTO mode while being able to select a shutter speed or f-stop. If the Exposure Compensation button is held down while rotating the Control Dial in the Program mode, the exposure compensation values will be changed.
