The Chief Petitioners said the High School will be in Del Aire. Is that still the plan?
The State simply inquired whether there was a facility available for the intended high school. The former Sepulveda School and the Shepard School in Del Aire could be converted into the new high school. That is true. It will be up to the new school board to determine whether that is an optimal site. For example, at approximately 7 acres, the Sepulveda site is currently quite undersized to be a small full service high school. State guidelines suggest 20-25 acres as more appropriate. For comparison, the Dana site is 16 acres. In addition, the two tenants at Sepulveda and Shepard provide necessary lease income that helps to maintain a balanced operating budget and the ability to offer high quality programs and services to our students. In the end, this may be the most desirable site, but it is subject to a future decision by people unknown to us at this time.
