The berlin wall was created by the soviet union to separated east and west berlin, separating the communism and democracy. what does the fall of the berlin wall represent?
I’d suggest everyone watch the movie Goodbye, Lenin! before they assume they know how all those in East Germany felt about the fall of the Berlin Wall. Essentially, the youth and opposition to the GDR in East Germany wanted the culture of the west so badly, it took down the wall. After it happened, they found that they traded their identity for a culture that was actually quite cold and harsh. Many were lost in the tidal wave of western culture that flooded into East Germany. Some longed once again for the simple comforts of the GDR, proudly proclaiming their East German heritage against all logic to those in the west. While the story is a fictional comedy, it evokes the very real emotion that many felt after the fall of the Berlin Wall. It shows you that these were people just like you and me, and while life could be harsh in the GDR, it wasn’t always that way nor as bad as advertised in the west. It’s quite an eye-opening movie, touching, and humorous.
